CAD Designer–Mass Timber:

Role Summary

Our Commercial Building Division is currently looking for a Structural Draftsperson to join our team at our New Lowell office.  The successful candidate will assist in developing and drafting structural design solutions for mass timber buildings.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop structural designs for projects from concept through to construction completion.

  • Liaise with other departments, engineers and consultants in coordinating technical aspects of the project.

  • Assist with the analysis of design issues and determining appropriate solutions.

  • Creating and maintaining 3D CAD project models.

  • Produce 2D drawing sets for engineer approval, production and site erection.

  • Produce accurate material take-offs.

  • Assist with estimating for prospective projects.

 

Qualifications

  • Post secondary education in design/drafting.

  • Good knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD software.  Proficiency with AutoCad and CadWorks would be considered an asset.

  • Familiar with architectural and structural concepts of construction projects.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints

  • Experience with heavy timber, cross laminated timber (CLT), glue-laminated timber (Glulam) and nail-laminated timber (NLT) would be an asset.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with tight deadlines.

  • A desire to learn and continually develop.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to prioritize deadlines, track status and facilitate progress on multiple projects.

 

Salary: $40,000 to $80,000 per year – dependant upon qualifications/experience.
